His Princess

Chapter Twelve: Finny

The Crow had grown rather bored with the mundane escapades of human life. After recruiting Baldroy, he continued to walk through the alleys and streets of London. He received nothing. As earlier in the day, he found that the ones remotely capable in defending the master’s manor were completely mad or inadequate for the job of a servant. Things eventually came to the point where he walked into the night and found himself irritable and exasperated. Due to his state, he opted to rent a room at a shabby, dilapidated inn. He rose with the sun the next day and began again the futile search. As he struggled through the early morning in his unsuccessful search, his thoughts drifted again to his beloved. His kitten. His beautiful feline. In his boredom he often used his venom to gauge how much distance was between them. The Crow was determined to keep the distance between them as little as possible in fear that he would cause her too much pain while he was away. He smiled genuinely behind his dark cloak when his thoughts drifted off to her.

His kitten, his “______”, his feline princess. Her (h/l) (h/c) locks were silky to the touch and her (s/c) complexion was the purest and most beautiful of all to behold and her eyes—oh, those lovely eyes—were the brightest (e/c) to ever be seen on this earth. He missed her greatly and it had been less than half a day since he last held her. If he thought deeply enough, he could feel her form against his own slender one. If he pushed a bit further, he could remember how her lips felt against his in their final goodbye. The Crow had created a strong bond with The Feline. It was a bond reminiscent of what humans call love. But alas, demons cannot love. They are creatures condemned of the flesh and forbidden to experience anything similar to purity or piety. The Crow had no qualms with this, for he never knew anything beside desecration and horror. Well, until he had beheld his devoted and cherished one. She was the only truly lovely thing he had experienced in his existence and he waited with anticipation for the day when he could call her his and join their bond in the most intimate of ways. With that thought, another smile grazed his pale lips.

It was another busy day at the manor without “Sebastian” by The Feline’s side. She had been cooking, cleaning, and tending the master all morning, all the while with the horrendous pain of her mate’s venom in her neck. She often felt faint and had to sit down for a time before she felt comfortable enough to carry on with her duties. It didn’t help that Tanaka only sat drinking tea either. She longed for the night, or next morning, when her crow would return to her. If only to free her from this unending pain, but she knew that nothing could be done before the Mating Ritual, when The Crow would leave a permanent mark on her, and she on him, signifying that they were joined in all possible ways. The Feline continued on in this way from the moment she rose at five thirty until she had finally woken the master at seven. She knew that if The Crow were there he would have repeatedly remarked on how much of a sight she must be, scurrying around the manor and falling over furniture for only five minutes of rest.

Having been unsuccessful for the whole of the early morning, The Crow decided it best to leave the streets and alleys of London in search of much more…amusing places. He started with a science research lab that had been recommended to him by none other than a certain silver-haired reaper. He was an old acquaintance from one of the demon’s earlier contracts. It was about eight thirty when The Crow finally saw the place. It was a monstrosity of a building and was located at the top of a very tall hill, most definitely to better observe the heavenly bodies and stars. The outside was pristine, as any place of study would seem to be.

As The Crow came closer to the building, he noticed that there were absolutely no windows in the whole building. In fact, there were only two ways into the place: the front and back entrance. The only source of circulated air seemed to be the front door that was held open only an inch wide with a small rock. The Crow blinked in confusion, baffled by the strange architecture of the building. He opened the cracked door and entered the building. Upon his entrance, he noticed that there was no form of welcome center whatsoever. This place must have rarely been visited. The inside was just as clean and barren as the outside. The only things on the white walls were wood-painted signs directing where each room was. The Crow followed a corridor until he came upon a room marked as “Test Subjects.” Curious as to what was being tested and why, The Crow opened it only to come upon one test subject: a small blonde boy strapped and shackled to a table. He was bound with metals that even some demons could not break. The Crow found this most peculiar and smirked to himself. Maybe he found himself another servant for the master.

“Please, sir! Please help me! I have not been let out for nearly three days now. I haven’t the slightest idea as to where my mum and dad went off to.” The Crow lowered his cloak so the boy could see his face.

“These are quite heavy chains, boy. Who placed them on you?” The boy closed his eyes, blinking back tears.

“Well, the people who have bound me haven’t returned in three days, if that is any inclination as to who did this to me.” The boy began to cry silently after uttering these words and The Crow raised his brows in surprise.

“Your parents have bound you in the strongest metals on the earth? For what reason would they do that?” The boy began to cry loudly at this point.

“The same reason they do everything! They did it for science! Ever since I was old enough to walk, they locked me up in this place. They came often enough, bringing food and water, and they let me have access to anywhere I so pleased in the facility too. That was until I broke their one condition to never leave the building last month.”

“Were the chains one of the consequences?” The boy nodded.

“Yes, and much more came with the chains. They stopped with my education and came less and less often. My father used to study with me and my mother would dote over me. Now, they only come back daily to feed me terrible meals, clean my excrement and myself, and perform more and more tests.” The boy sobbed until his face was covered in mucus and tears. The Crow broke the locks on the chains that bound the boy to the table. He sprung up to his feet. “How did you do that, sir?”

“I assume that your parents have augmented your abilities in physical strength. These chains are made of the strongest known metal and it has never been broken by any machine before, merely fashioned and molded, never cut nor severed. For a normal human, iron would have been sufficient. But for you, this metal was necessary.” The Crow smiled at the young boy. “Now then, I ha—” The Crow could not speak another word before being pummeled by the small boy.

“You must be my guardian angel then.”

“I beg your pardon?” The Crow frowned in annoyance at being pushed to the ground.

“You said that the chain could only be fashioned and molded, never cut nor severed. You broke it, sir! You severed it! You must be my angel, because you are not of this world and you’ve rescued me from this place. Now I can leave! I can leave with you!” The boy held on to The Crow with strength that would have crushed any human’s back. The Crow pushed the boy away from him.

“Think of me what you may, I am not your guardian angel. I am only one hell of a butler with duties to carry out. My master is in need of servants for his manor. Seeing how you are eager to flee from your parents, and to stay with me, I find this fitting. All of your needs will be provided at the manor and if you choose to leave, you will be paid a thousand pounds for every year you work for my master. Your strength will be of use in defending his manor. There you will be surrounded by others: my fiancé, my master, another butler, another servant, and myself.” The boy smiled.

    “Only on one condition, sir.”

“Please, boy, call me Sebastian. What is it?”

“I get to go outside everyday while I work at this manor.”

“That can be arranged. Now, what shall I call you?”

“My name is Finnian, but call me Finny. My parents never fancied pet names and I’d like to have one.”

“Well, Finny. Will you accompany me to the manor, as well as another servant?”

    “With the utmost pleasure, Sebastian.”

The pair left the research center that morning bound for the bar in London where The Crow had found Baldroy. The carriage would arrive shortly, near one o’clock, prepared to take both him and Finny to their new home at the manor and The Crow would continue his search for the final servant. He smiled as he walked with the boy, for he once again could feel the stature of his kitten in his arms and the way her soft lips pressed against his.
