Chapter Seven: Cooking Competition

The Crow had been gone for what seemed like hours now. The Feline was beginning to feel the bite mark burn and it was becoming more and more noticeable with each passing second. Her and the Young Master had found the tiny butler Tanaka. He was a small thing with grey hair and square-framed spectacles. The three of them were currently sitting in a meadow-like area of the estate.

“______?” The Feline perked up at the words of her master.

                “Yes, my lord?”

“When Sebastian returns, I would like for you two to go out and recruit some servants. My only requirement is the ability for them to defend my manor.”

“Yes, my lord.” The three continued to sit in the silence until there was a loud thud from the forest. The Feline stood abruptly, “I’ll go see to the sound, my lord.” The Feline walked towards the sound to find the Crow holding four or five logs of timber. His pajamas were also gone. He was instead attired in a black suit with a long tailcoat. “What are you wearing and why are you carrying trees?”

“I’m rebuilding the manor and don’t be jealous, I got you something too.” The Feline rolled her eyes.

“I don’t think I’ll appreciate this gift. Do you need help?”

“No.” With that, the Crow continued on his own way.

Only an hour after the Feline and Crow’s paths crossed, the manor was completely finished, painted, and furnished. The Crow salvaged as much as he could from the remains of the burnt manor, which wasn’t very much at all. The Young Master was quite surprised at the feat.

“How is that possible?” The young boy asked, astonished at just what his butler and maid were capable of. The Crow only smiled.

“The manor is finished, my lord. You may go in if you’d like.” The boy continued on and summoned Tanaka to come with him.

“________, may you inform Sebastian with what I told you earlier?”

“Yes, my lord.” The Feline responded quickly. Before she could get a word out, The Crow handed her a dress bag.

“I told you I got you something.” She opened it to find a maid’s dress. It was blue with a white apron and wasn’t immodest like she thought it would be. She blinked at The Crow’s sensibility.

“Wow, it doesn’t have a corset back. That’s a first.” The Crow smirked.

“Well since there won’t be anyone to wait on you hand and foot anymore, I’ll get to see you half naked much more anyway. With that in mind, I decided I’d spare you the corset back.” The Feline frowned.

“Why am I not surprised by your absurd forwardness?” He leaned in so that his lips were nearly brushing her ear.

“Because you love it, my dear.” The Feline pushed The Crow away.

“Okay! Violating the bubble again, back up!”

“Oh, stop. So what did the master mean by something that you need to tell me?” The Feline became serious.

“We are to search for servants for the manor. I’m assuming all the other ones died in the fire since he only asked for me to find Mr. Tanaka. His only requirement is that the servants can defend the manor.”

“It shall be done. Do you know when he wants us to start searching and who is this Tanaka?”

“He didn’t tell me. I would assume first thing tomorrow morning. Tanaka is another butler, he seems like he’s been here for quite some time.” The Crow nodded and pulled out his pocket watch with now gloved hands. “You brought your pocket watch with you? Of all things, a pocket watch?” The Feline asked in surprise.

“I quite like this watch, but forget that. We should return to the master.” The Feline nodded and the pair walked in sync to the manor. When they arrived in the foyer, the master and Mr. Tanaka were simply standing there in awe.

“Sebastian.” The Crow quickly reported to his master.

                “Yes, young master?”

“How did you know exactly what the manor looked like?” The Crow smirked.

“When one forms a contract with a demon, everything that the demon must know to please his or her master is transferred to his or her memory. I know everything I could possibly need to know about you and your past.” The boy nodded slowly with a look of horror doused upon his young face.

“So it is exactly the same as it was before?”

“Yes, my lord.” The boy nodded again.

“Go make me something to eat. I’m famished. I’ll be in my study. You may help him if you so please, ______. Tanaka, carry on.” The two demons replied in approval and Tanaka continued to drink his tea, which seemed to appear out of thin air, in silence. The two demons entered the kitchen together and began to discuss what they should cook.

“So, Crow, have you ever cooked a day in your life?” The Feline asked, genuinely curious if he had.

“I can’t say I have, have you?” The Feline nodded.

“I’ve always been a maid in my previous contracts so I’ve become skilled at cooking.”

“Speaking of maids, why don’t you change into the outfit I bought you with our master’s money?” The Feline rolled her eyes.

“Fine.” She exited the kitchen and made way to the nearest washroom. Since she was in contract with the boy, she too knew everything that she would need to know in order to succeed in fulfilling his wish. She swapped her baby blue gown for the maid dress. The dress, while modest, still clung to her form and poofed out around the apron. The dress stopped right above her knees so it was still a bit of a stretch. The Crow had luckily bought some stockings and a pair of mary-janes to go with it. She dressed herself quickly and walked back to the kitchen. The Feline held back a chuckle at the sight of The Crow. He was covered up to his forearms in tan dough, he wore an already messy apron around his waist, and an exasperated expression adorned his features. “Would you like some help, Mr. Butler?” The Crow rolled his eyes.

“Of course not. I’ll make the master’s midmorning snack by myself.” The Feline smirked.

“Well, Sebastian, if you seem so determined, you wouldn’t mind a bit of friendly competition, would you?” The Crow smirked back at his treasure.

“Of course not, Kitten.”  The Feline tsked.

“Oh dearest Sebastian, you mustn’t call me by that in this world and especially not in public.” The Crow rolled his eyes and The Feline’s smirk grew. “Now what exactly are you making?” The Crow named a very fancy type of French dessert and The Feline smiled, for she knew that dish very well and The Crow was doing horribly in preparing it. The Feline smirked, for she knew this competition would be one that she would win. She too pulled out the required ingredients and began to prepare the dessert. She wouldn’t lie; the dessert was fairly difficult, especially if it was the first thing that one cooked. However, she had made it so many times that she felt like a machine preparing it. Two eggs now, then two cups of sugar here, then half a teaspoon of salt… It all came so easily to her. Once she finished the dish, she placed it on one of the silver carts The Crow had fetched when he was rebuilding the manor. She watched as he struggled with the placement of silverware and where the cup of tea was supposed to go. She chuckled.

“You find this amusing, _____?” He glared in her direction. She smiled and sauntered over to him and patted his back.

“I find this very amusing, Sebastian. Now come along. The master is probably getting anxious, you know how he loves his sweets.” The couple began to walk side by side to the master’s study, both of their carts rolling softly against the tile. The Feline hummed softly to herself, excited to see the outcome of this competition and just how badly the master would react to The Crow’s attempt at cooking. The dessert did look as if it were edible but the filling was all sorts of wrong. Where the filling should have been a jello like substance, it was runny. Where it was supposed to be sweet, it was salty. The Crow mixed up the salt and the sugar, but she couldn’t blame him. She too did that multiple times when she was first learning how to cook. The pair reached the door quickly and The Crow knocked upon the door.

“Master? _____ and I have your midmorning snack.”

“Come in.” was the curt reply the pair received. They both entered the room, carts in sync. The young boy raised an eye. “Why are there two carts?” The boy inquired.

“Sebastian and I are sharing in a bit of…friendly competition, if you will.” The Feline spoke up and the boy nodded.

“Sebastian, bring me yours first.” The Crow brought the cart up to him confidently and placed the dessert as well as the tea before the young boy. The master picked up his fork and cut off a small piece of the pie-like dessert filled with filling. He was surprised when his fork pierced it that the filling ran out all over the plate, like piercing the yolk of an over-easy egg. He slowly placed the piece he cut off in his mouth, it and the fork covered with the runny filling. The Crow smiled, sure that the master was going to be pleased—there was runny-filling-pie stuff all over his face. The Crow burned with rage, but knew he could not do anything against his master. “Sebastian?”

“Yes, my lord?” He answered as calmly as he could.

“That was the most awful thing I have ever tasted in my life and until you make me food that is edible, I will not drink your tea either.” There was tea across the crow demon’s face. “______, bring me yours.” The Feline pushed her cart to her master and placed her creations in front of him. She gave the dessert and the tea a formal introduction. The young boy smiled in approval. Her and The Crow’s dessert were nearly identical on the outside, but when the master cut into the dessert, the filling stayed inside. He lifted the bite to his mouth and nodded in approval as he swallowed. He sipped some of The Feline’s tea as well. “This is excellent. Good job, _____. Now, you two leave me to my work.” The pair of demons both nodded. “Oh, Sebastian?” The Crow turned in acknowledgement.

                “Yes, my lord?”

“You could learn a thing or two from your mate.” The Crow felt his entire being be consumed by fire.

                “Yes, my lord.”

xXx

It was now a little after eight thirty and the master had just been put to bed. The Feline did all of the cooking for rest of day while The Crow did all of the cleaning. The two were now in their shared quarters. The Feline was in her pajamas and reading a book in bed while The Crow pouted at the wall.

                “Crow?”

                “What?”

“Sulking and being angry about it won’t change anything. The only thing you can do is get better. It really isn’t a big deal.” The Crow only frowned more. The Feline rolled her eyes. “I’d never thought that I’d ever say this, like ever, but come to bed. You’re only going to get madder and make things worse.” The Crow smirked. He felt as if he needed a bit of a pick-me-up after this humiliating day and what better pick-me-up was there besides tormenting his kitten?

“You’re right, Kitten,” The Feline smiled. “You know what would make me feel better?” The Feline’s smile quickly turned into a frown.

“Look, Crow, these lips will not touch yours without a good reason. This isn’t a good reason.” The Crow frowned.

“But, Kitten, I’ve had such a horrible day! You should make me feel better.” The Crow smirked as he crawled into the bed beside her, invading her “bubble”. You are to give him everything he wants without question. You are to be his comfort. The words of King Lucifer ran through The Feline’s mind and she suddenly felt guilty. The Feline leaned in quickly and gave The Crow one very passionate kiss. Their lips moved in sync perfectly and it felt as if their mouths were dancing in time. The Feline licked The Crow’s lips, asking for entrance that she didn’t really want. The Crow smirked and granted her access. He then engaged their tongues in a fierce battle. As the kiss got more and more heated, The Crow’s black-nailed hands found their way into the (curly/straight/etc.), (h/l), (h/c) locks of his mate. He let out a soft moan in defiance as The Feline pulled away. The Crow’s eyes were half-lidded in desire. He had never wanted a woman, or anything for that matter, so much. As he began to regain awareness, his eyes widened. Why had she kissed him so fiercely so suddenly? “Kitten, is everything all right?” He asked cautious as to keep her calm. She nodded.

“Yes, goodnight.” She rolled over on her side of the bed so that she was facing away from him. She then blew out the candle on her bedside table, a small tear rolling down her cheek. The Crow, too, lay down. What wasn’t she telling him? She wouldn’t kiss him like that, for their bond was nowhere near strong enough to push her to do something like that. He placed one of his hands on the small of her back, rubbing it gently. He scooted so that their bodies were flush against each other. He wrapped his arms around her torso and pulled her even closer to him.

“You don’t have to say anything now, Kitten, but when you’re ready, tell me what’s bothering you. Everything that you’re supposed to be for me is the same the other way. As your mate and your devoted, I want to be able to comfort you in whatever way or form you need comforting. Just let me now, I don’t like seeing you like this.” Unbeknownst to The Crow, The Feline smiled genuinely thankful for what he had said. She contemplated telling him, but as she was about to say something, his arms relaxed around her waist and his heartbeat slowed to a normal pace.
